Bit of help here, please

Post by loui »

Hi guys

Building a twincam turbo for a mate, I have never worked on these motors before and was wanting to know some simple questions

In picture 1, I want to know what the pieces the arrows are pointing to.

Image

my guesses are that two of the arrows are the oil squirters for the head, they have been closed up with bolts, guessing to keep dirt out

the other arrow, dunno if this is for water or a breather

Picture two, im not sure what this is at all and how is it hooked up

Image

Cheers

1- Oil comes out of there I believe :P
2- No fkn idea
3- WTF? An alien? I can't really see with the stuff on it but looks like an oil filter?

Sorry I'm not more help.

Ooh, didn't know G200Ws had the ghey socket style head bolts.

Number 2 looks like the crankcase breather.

Number three looks like the oil filter and oil cooler setup as per 117Coupe.

Nice Pics :D . Number 1 is supposed to be blocked off. these are from the factory machining of the head.
Number 2 is supposed to have a PCV valve or in race use going to a catch can(not road legal).
The silver unit is not used on the Piazza version of this engine, a welsh plug is used to plug up this hole. This engine you have is an early bellet style twin cam. I used to have the same type of engine but I sold it 3 months ago so I can't remember what it actually looks like, but from memory I think it only two fittings and no other outlets- this is an oil/air seperator ??
I hope this helps.

The important part for the cam oiling is the cam bearings- the oil comes through the head and feeds the cam bearings. When you run the engine and then remove the rocker cover you will see the whole head flooded with oil.
Hope this helps.

Thanks heaps for your help on this motor as it has had me confused for a while (Im used to Holden straight sixes and v8's)

With the oil/air separator, do you think it is worth while running it or should I block it off, its just that im not sure how to hook it up?

Many thanks

Loui
