Re: MLS Gaskets

I'm thinking of buying a set or 2 of the G200W gasket kit whilst I still have money.
Not that they are MLS, but to bump this thread and maybe see if anyone organised a special buy from that Moorabin mob....

Re: ITB's

But isn't >$1k a pretty hefty add-on for an engine with OEM injector manifolds?? Of course if the "standard" - well, a G200W with (IMO) forged pistons - engine output of 400Nm & 230BHP (170kW) isn't enough... Disclaimer - Not that I'm saying higher output isn't achievable simply or che...

Damn - I didn't record the end of "Universal Soldier" last night. I knew there was a reason but I thought nah - she's not THAT good looking or fleshy, and Dolph isn't that appealing (bloody Swedes!). Anyhow, I tuned in near the end to see if Dolph beat the Predator this time around. Nah......

Ah.
I have a naked laser cut flange, unused & 10m thick from memory, but I'd want around $100 for it.

Do you mean exhaust flange gasket? If so they are common "3 bolt twin pipe" types (same as Gemini, or was it Toyota etc?).

Pimped LUV

No - my El is still free. But yesterday on Pimp My Ride was a Chevy LUV. I was impressed how often it got "the ugliest ever" comments - whether the overall look, or the dash & cockpit, etc. Not that I've looked in detail - I just hit record on my PC-TV as I was working on other things ...

Re: G200W gasket kits

Any updates? Some money has fallen to me and I'm considering getting 2 full gasket sets (G200W). Maybe a set or 3 of cam bearings depending on price. I'd probably buy during the 2nd half of Sept13 - procrastination & higher priority drains exempted. If I hear nothing, I'll probably buy DIY.

Dammit - I missed the early and went through the lot. (I used to be a member of THAT forum.) But I had to laugh at the pics of the demise of the that OP's TX sedan's 4ZC1-t engine. Lucky those guys like learning first hand eh? (Not that I hence understand his profanity re the TX.) By the looks of it...

Re: Cul8r's g180w/g200w chevette

The blue/gold is a temperature effect. I can't say I have often seen it on cars except for racers etc - not that I often see chromed extractors etc on cars due to brittleness, and racers or high-performance machines usually use black to radiate the heat better. On bikes the brittleness isn't much of...

Re: Cul8r's g180w/g200w chevette

It's not the set I sold for the Brock-replica rally Gemini. That was far more mandrel bent (less welds) and its 2:1 was similar to mine - ie, ~26" for peak torque at 3kRPM. I can't recall its ID at the flange but probably 2.5" because 2"-2.5" was ok and I wasn't prepared to compl...

AT LAST - someone using a 4:2:1 exhaust to truly draw the performance out of (8 valve) G-W engines!

The 2:1 section looks a bit long, but that depends what it's been designed for... or, it'll be interesting to see its torque curve.

Is that rocker/cam cover black? And if so, do you know if it has been resprayed or if it was originally black? Re the alternator, hopefully the new owner will get one like that pictured, ie an "all in one" alt + regulator with internal fan, and I strongly suggest Hitachi or Mitsubishi (Nis...

Hey Elky, I long dead thread (I suspect the others have long gone; hanging their heads in shame LOL! Except for archangel of course!), but I wonder if you had difficulty finding Gemini LSDs? Diesel TE at PAP-K (Melbourne: for GW crossmember)

This may be a bit late, but on 22Dec2012 at Pick A Part - Kilsyth (Melbourne) there was a TE diesel fairly complete but missing the manual gearbox. It still had its front cross-member which - as I understand it - makes GW twincam mounting in Geminis much easier. (I think you can use the standard GW ...

Re: New forum look... but it needs your help!

Ah - usually the ignitors go, but those reluctors aren't that good compared to the modern RB/RG type; they were the same multi-pole and horizontal coil types that 1980-1990 vintage Mazdas, Nissan N13, Camira etc used. The Isuzu dizzies of that vintage also had a horizontal magnet ring. If that crack...

Re: Rattly Twincam

I'd expect a cam chain noise to be more from the side rather than the top. The broken dizzy tooth could explain it. Otherwise it's pretty hard to say - buckets, valve seats, crap in chamber (old splug electrode or broken ring though rings probably ok if its 135psi even, though 135psi is low and wort...

Re: G161W-G180W-G200W bearing sets (including cam bearings)

I just checked my 4ZD1 and its cam caps are the block type (as Poida suggested) - they have no bearing shell. And from what I can see, my 4ZC1-Ts and 4ZE1s are the same. Hence my confusion in my last reply. I really meant that GW OH cam bearings are not the same as 4Z cam bearings - unless Isuzu had...

Why not buy Taiho? Because they are not GW twincam bearings.

CORRECTION 11Dec2012: Taihos are listed for the 4Z engines yet they have no bearings. See reply below.

Re: 1979 117c Turbo?

Good to see a conclusion after 4+ years.

As to stem seals, they are no different to other Isuzus and most Jap cars. I suspect it was simply a worn engine, else previously worked by non-knowledgables.

As to catch cans, they shouldn't be required. I don't think the 390HP turbo G200W needed one.

OMG - an original GW dizzy. Use the RG when that dizzy fails.

No comment about the noisy <whatever> pulley drive, other than IMO it's better to get a serpentine drive.

It's sounding pretty good - just get a manual memcal. And it sounds like you are using the RG dizzy feeding the remote N13 ignitor. [ The RG for Delco being the non-sparky ignitorless version else with the ignitor bypassed feeding the Delco HEI (N13 ignitor), else RG ignitor output thru a capacitor ...

From previous discussions years ago on that issue, no - those numbers have nothing to do with ratios etc. And IMO that's bluddy shame! Though you are not correct regarding "more magnetic force" (and it contradicts your "adding resistors slows..." comment if that was in comparison to hi-Z), these days it's academic. It seems the current (pun!) preference is for hi-Z. That change occurred after 2005. Kinsler in 20...
