Thanks again for the advice. I did note the very thin gasket between 1-2 & 3-4 – I measure it as 4mm. Maybe because it’s virtually ‘all metal’ on the AA/Permaseal/NZ_gaskets means that it compresses and gives way. I’ll find the other G200 gaskets that I have and compare (one day…. I’ve just reco...

Sorry – I was referring to G200 above when I said G161 & G180 gaskets would be to small. I only use G200s, though I intend to use a G180 rebored to 2L (‘cos I put them in G160 & G161 OEM vehicles and I don’t want to exceed the "+10% rule" do I?). But I used to use G161 head gaskets...

I'd get whatever gaskets you can get now. I'd get VRS rather than getting them made - that can always be done in the future (and maybe in bulk!). Keep your "good second hand" gasket for when you really need it. Can't use 1600 or 1800 gaskets - the bore is to small. And you will need a gask...

Good to hear some endorsement, but I would never use Hylomar on a new gasket. Whilst it may not do harm – it’s just a waste. And it may be difficult to “break” on next head removal. (Ever had to hack-saw a head off the block? Admittedly that was on a Toyota 4WD that had been using bore-water as cool...

SOHC head gasket in DOHC

Now don't take my advice as gospel - this info is from over 10 years ago.... I'm certain that DOHC owners used to add an extra hole to SOHC head gaskets, but I don't know if anything else was needed. Most head gaskets have some sort of reinforcing around holes. This may be to seal the gasket to prev...

I note the '...get a (copper maybe) head gasket made...'. Am out of touch? What makes copper gaskets useable, or isn't it pure copper? I was looking at a Cu head gasket for my old Belletts so I could re-use them, but once I moved to the newer alloy head, that was not an option. (Okay for cast iron b...

Support Terrorism - give echelon hell! Reminds me of another Forum I visited recently (video editing software). It seems users and owners are complaning about how hard it is to FIND info. I can't understand why - just 'cos there is no search function and there are only some 150 summary pages that yo...

Rough 'ol Wasp - yeah - sounds like mine. Most others reckon they can never catch me. You're smart - "going the other way" - cute! Yep - she's got this awesome 1600cc pushrod engine with standard Nikki carby. Must be pulling at least 60HP. The reason I want “redundancy” is the way I drive....

Thanks Nick! I really appreciate the email-pics offer, but Poida sent me the pic-posting instructions. Too easy – for the 2nd picture anyhow! I have thus posted the cam-idler “cotton-reel” pics on viewtopic 788 (ie http://poida.completelyfreehosting.com/twincam/viewtopic.php?p=788 - not 88 as mistyp...

At last - my cotton-reel idler sprocket. The following shows what was in the head of the alleged "$9,000 2L DOHC". http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3420/dohccamidlercottonreelcdsc0436.jpg Unfortunately I haven't got a conveniently removed DOHC original to compare it to, but the two centr...

Still can't paste pics - I was gonna show the "cotton reel" idler "sprocket". Note that it was the idler sprocket - not the tensioner - that I was referring to. Re tensioners, the DOHC ones should be okay as they have a return-limiting ratchet. Early SOHCs didn't have this so the...

And I forgot re "What are you doing in regards to the EFI setup.... standard Isuzu manifolds or custom? ... 4AGE 20V quad throttles ...." I want to go from my 2L DOHC twin Webers to EFI. But this assumes I'll get comparable fuel economy. (Sorry, but 4AGE is double dutch.) When last run, I ...

Two months later.... Thanks Nick for the confirmation.... So is Chris publishing that Piazza book? Did he get scared off by threatened law suits (and convinced that the GMH or I-GM info on 200/400 imports etc was crap)? Chris warned me that you can never get a manual gearbox back in a Piazza. Wow - ...

Isuzu DOHC parts interchangeability(Lotus, Ford)

Sorry for the delay archangel62 - I wasn't emailed - or was it due to my multiple Windoze crashes? WARNING - get XP-SP2+ (W2k-SP4+) roll-ups if you use big disks (ie - greater than about 130GB)!!! I have a 2L DOHC which had (allegedly) $9,000 spent on it by some "expert" in Dandenong (Vic)...

Oh forgot (sht!).... I'm also after front-mounting G180/G200 SOHC or DOHC engine mounts - preferably 45 degrees and can swap for any of the other DOHC mounts that I have. The original-post photos show LHS mounted starters - eg - Bellett, Wasp, Florian, ZZR etc. I will swap Gemini-type RHS-starter st...

Based on an email I sent to Bradlze but modified and with a "carby-type correction". Re the carby version - yes - they are probably factory standard. The SUs are probably Hitachi copies (better than SUs, but as for parts....?). Similar ones were used on GT Belletts and the Florian TS (and ...

DOHC design

The Isuzu DOHC is a totally Isuzu design. I has once heard that Isuzu had Alfa start the design and that Lotus finished it, but this is wrong. (When has Lotus ever built an engine etc?!) The Isuzu designer is alive and well. Whether Isuzu based their design on Cortina etc (like Bellet and the G-seri...

DOHC starters

I've run DOHC starters on Belletts, Wasps & Florians. I'm currently running a RHS Gemini (arghh - Gemini parts - yech!!) starter in my Wasp - the solenoid merely points horizonally left instead of upwards. I have a 4ZE1 reduction started (RHS) which I'm about to try. From what I can see, they al...

Minor correction to "Cam cover colour - The 117 engine will have an orangey or olive green coloured cover while the Piazza engine uses a Red cover. " I think you'll find the olive-green cover is the 1600cc DOHC (which incidently seemed to be the "fastest" DOHC for reasons I'm not...
